Statement of Purpose
The Lakewood Urban Mission Team exists to help Lakewood effectively carry out God’s Kingdom purposes in the L.A. Metro area, particularly in the Long Beach/Lakewood area. This involves evangelism through both word and deed, with a special emphasis on promoting justice and mercy among the poor, the oppressed, and the marginalized.
Micah 6:8 “…and what does the Lord require of you but to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God?”
This purpose will be carried out by:
- Helping Lakewood members explore, discover, and answer God’s call to urban mission
- Mobilizing Lakewood members and ministries to serve our community
- Developing strategic partnerships with existing ministries and community organizations in the Long Beach/Lakewood area
- Funding new church plants, ministries, and urban missionaries in the Long Beach/Lakewood and L.A. Metro area
