If your child has questions about salvation
HEY KIDS, WOULD YOU LIKE TO KNOW HOW TO BECOME A CHRISTIAN?
HOW DO YOU THINK PEOPLE GET INTO HEAVEN?
Ø Do you think that if your parents believe in God, you’ll automatically get into heaven?
Ø Do you think that if you go to church every week, you’ll automatically get into heaven?
Ø Do you think that just because you’re “really GOOD” you’ll get into heaven?
Ø Do you think that if just STOP DOING a few certain bad things, God will let you into heaven?
Ø Do you think that if you get baptized, you’ll be able to get into heaven?
Jesus said in John 14:6 “I am the way, and the truth and the life…The ONLY way to the Father is through me.” (New International Version of the Bible)
In Romans 5:8 is says, “But God shows his great love for us in this way: Christ died for us while we were still sinners.” (New Century Version)
SO WHAT IS SIN?
Romans 3:23 says, “for all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.” Sin is anything that is not “perfect.” Jesus Christ was the only person who ever lived a perfect life. We are not perfect in our thoughts, our actions, our words, the way we treat people, the way we DON’T treat people, in the way we neglect our relationship with God, and so many other ways.
Have you ever done ANYTHING wrong? Of course you have… Then unfortunately, you are not perfect, and therefore, you are a sinner. So are your parents, your teachers, and even your children’s pastor, Miss Carol. But the good news is that Jesus Christ already took care of our sin problem for us.
WHERE DID OUR SIN GO?
Psalm 103:12 says, “He has taken our sins away from us as far as the east is from west.” (New Century Version)
Isaiah 43:25 says, “I, even I, am the one who wipes out your sins for My own sake; and I will not remember your sins.” (New American Standard Bible)
The FIRST HALF of Romans 6:23 says “But the wages (the payment) for sin is death.”
If you get a parking ticket, you have to pay the penalty, right? You have to pay for the ticket. When you break man’s laws, you pay man’s penalty.
Because God is perfect, He can set the rules however He wants… and His rules say that only perfection will let you get into heaven, his home. He created Heaven, and He makes the rules on who can come in… When you break God’s lay, you have to pay God’s penalty.
So that means that none of us can get into heaven, right? WRONG!
The SECOND HALF of Romans 6:23 says, “But God gives us a free gift…life forever in Christ Jesus our Lord.” Why would God want to pay MY PRICE for MY SIN? I don’t deserve that, do I? No… I don’t, and neither do you. But because God loves us so much, more than we can even imagine, he cannot stand the thought of being separated from you. He created you, and He wants to spend eternity with you. So he made a way for US to get into heaven, so we could be with Him forever. Pretty cool, huh!?
SO WHAT DO YOU HAVE TO DO TO GET INTO HEAVEN?
A: Admit that you sin and turn to God
(Another word for this is “Repentance.”)
I John 1:9 says, “But if we confess our sins, he will forgive our sins. We can trust God. He does what is right. He will make us clean from all the wrongs we have done.”
Acts 3:19 says, “Now turn from your sins and turn to God, so you can be cleansed of your sins.”
Just like you do a 180 on your skateboard, you need to STOP where you’re going and what you’re doing and go in the complete opposite direction of your sin.
B: Believe with Faith that Jesus Died for You.
Romans 10:9 says, “If you use your mouth to say, “Jesus is Lord,” and if you believe in your heart that God raised Jesus from death, then you will be saved.”
C: Call on Jesus to come into your Life.
John 1: 12-13 says, “But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right to become children of God. They are reborn!”
You can call on Jesus to come into your life by talking to him, either out loud or silently in your heart. This is called PRAYER. God is amazing…He can hear your thoughts, or the prayers that you whisper to him in the quietness of your bedroom, the car, the kitchen table, the lunchroom, wherever you are!
Have you ever asked Jesus to come into your life? If not, would you like to pray this prayer right now?
“Dear God, I know I’m a sinner. Please forgive me. I believe that Jesus died for my sins. I want Jesus to come into my life and be my Savior. I want to follow Him and obey Him. I want Him to be the Lord of my life. Amen.”
If you just prayed that prayer:
Ø Jesus came into your life
Ø Your sins are forgiven
Ø You are a child of God
Ø You have an eternal home in heaven
Ø YOU ARE A CHRISTIAN!
And now that you are a Christian, you will want to make a “Profession of Faith.” That means you will want to TELL OTHERS what just happened in your life.
Please tell your parents, your Sunday School teachers, your KidStuf leaders, your grandparents, your Children’s Pastor, Miss Carol, ANYONE YOU WANT TO TELL, about this very important decision. They will want to celebrate with you.
Please call, write, or email Miss Carol with this exciting news. She would also like to help you take the next steps in your spiritual growth and give you some books that will help you. If you do not have a Bible, be sure to tell her that, so she can get you one! Here’s how you get in touch with us….
